Data Centre Interconnection Optical Module is used for the connection between servers and switches, switches and switches, etc. It is used for data transmission and exchange. Optical Module is an indispensable part of Data Centre, and optical chip is the core product that makes up the optical module.
DCI technology is applicable to all scenarios where different levels of data centre interconnections are required between two or more data centre locations, and is designed to facilitate high-speed, secure, and reliable communications and data transfer between these data centres. With the development of big data, AI, application clouding and cloud computing, it meets the needs of scenarios such as cross-region operation, user access, and off-site disaster recovery.
It mainly includes the following classifications according to distance:
Campus DCI: usually within 5 km, connecting multiple data centres in the same campus.
Metro DCI: Within 100km, this is the interconnection between data centre campuses within a region and/or availability area.
Submarine DCI: Ultra-long distance data centre interconnections, typically hundreds of kilometres, which will use submarine fibre optic cables.
DCI Advantages:
1. DCI links support stronger traffic encryption, making information sharing more secure.
2. DCI also enables companies to apply Quality of Service (QoS) and other policies to ensure performance.
3. DCI provides organisations with greater flexibility in distributing workloads as the technology supports multiple connection types.
4. DCI technology allows organisations to share resources: DCI technology dynamically utilises physical and virtual resources across multiple sites and enables them to load balance their network infrastructure as required.
